TOWN OF MAPLE VALLEY, WI- A pilot from Grand Prairie, Texas has died after his plane crashed Wednesday night in Oconto County.
Oconto County Dispatch Center was notified of a plane crash near Hickory Corners around 6:30 p.m. Sheriff Officials located the plane in the 9000 block of Yatso Road in the Maple Valley Township. The pilot, a 67-year-old male, was the only one on the plane at the time of the crash. His name is being withheld at this point.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) fighter aircraft responded to an incident involving an unresponsive, single-engine general aviation aircraft over the state of Wisconsin. NORAD monitored the aircraft throughout the event, conducting regular assessments of potential impact to citizens and critical infrastructure. CST. NORAD aircraft did not use any weapons or tactics during the event that led to the aircraft impacting the ground.
The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban said he wanted to thank the citizens who called in with detailed information specific to assist the team in locating the aircraft.
