La Verna R. Zillmer, age 90 of Clintonville passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at The Pines Post-Acute & Memory Care, Clintonville.
The former La Verna Rose Degener was born on August 17, 1931, in the Town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County, to Herman and Freada (Zingler) Degener. She grew up in the Belle Plaine area and graduated from Shawano High School. La Verna was united in marriage on August 21, 1954, to Lyle “Buster” Zillmer at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville. In 1957 Buster and his father started the family business, Zillmer’s General Store in Bear Creek. La Verna and Buster owned and operated the store until 1979. La Verna was also an excellent homemaker and kept the household running smoothly.
La Verna was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, Bear Creek, where she served with the Ladies Aid for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, sewing, and playing cards, especially sheepshead. La Verna was an avid Brewers, Bucks, Badgers, and Packer fan. After retirement the couple traveled, and they had memorable trips with family to Alaska, Florida, and Hawaii to name a few. La Verna will be remembered most as a devoted wife, loving mother, and a proud grandmother and great grandmother.
Our family is so comforted knowing that Mom was a devout Christian who had such a strong faith and she shared it with others.
