HS Football: Week 8 Preview

There is a lot to play for in Week 8. Only teams with zero conference wins are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Many area teams are fighting for their playoff lives tonight.

BAY CONFERENCE

Feature Game: Winneconne (3-2) at Waupaca (3-1)
Not only does the winner get into the postseason, but it also stands a good chance to at least share the Bay Conference title next week. Both teams are also coming off of game-winning field goals in Week 7. Both teams started the season slow, but have been playing good football since Week 3.

Fox Valley Lutheran (3-2) at New London (1-4)- New London needs to win to keep playoff hopes alive. Fox Valley Lutheran is in with a win and stays alive in the Bay Conference title hunt.

Seymour (1-4) at Shawano (1-4)- It’s win or go home for both teams as both look for their second conference win. Shawano has had two straight heartbreaking losses, falling to Xavier on a late two-point conversion and falling to Winneconne on a field goal to end the game. The Hawks have some playmakers this year as they are at or near the top in Bay Conference passing, receiving, and rushing leaders.

Xavier (4-1) at Denmark (4-1)- Both teams enter the contest already in the playoffs, but need a win to keep Conference title hopes alive. Xavier has a one-game lead over three teams in the Bay while Denmark trails Luxemburg-Casco by a game and is tied with Freedom. Xavier can win at least a share of the Bay with a win.

NORTHEASTERN CONFERENCE

Feature Game: Luxemburg-Casco (5-0) at Freedom (4-1)
This game is all about a Conference Championship and playoff momentum. Both teams have done what they needed to do to secure themselves a decent spot in the postseason. Freedom is coming off of a shutout loss to Denmark, while Luxemburg-Casco has been one of the hottest teams in Northeast Wisconsin. Spartans Isaac Vandenbush leads the conference in rushing with over 1,000 yards on the season. The Spartans can win at least a share of the NE with a win.

Little Chute (1-4) at Marinette (0-5)- Little Chute must win to keep in the playoff hunt.

Kingsford (1-1) at Wrightstown (3-2)- Wrightstown is in the playoffs with a win.

Manawa (1-4) at Amherst (5-0)- Manawa needs to win to stay alive. Amherst can win at least a share of the Conference with a win.

Nekoosa (2-3) at Shiocton (1-4)- Shiocton needs to win at home to remain in the playoff hunt. Nekoosa is in with a win.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood (4-1) at Weyauwega-Fremont (0-5)

Stratford over Spencer/Columbus Catholic by Forfeit.

Assumption over Almond-Bancroft by Forfeit

Loyal (4-1) at Pacelli (5-0)

Rosholt (1-4) at Iola-Scandinavia (4-1)

Pittsville (2-3) at Wild Rose (1-4)

Feature Game: Kimberly (5-0) at Neenah (2-3)

These teams met just five months ago in the alternate spring season, with Fond du Lac winning in a running clock. These are very different squads that will face off in Week 8, however, as Fondy lost all eleven starters on offense and had head coach Steven Jorgensen step aside mid-season. Appleton North is very experienced and very talented, and has continued on strong after tough losses to the top two teams in Division 1, Franklin and Kimberly.

Appleton North (4-1) at Fond Du Lac (3-2)- Appleton North needs to win to stay in the Conference title hunt. Fond Du Lac returns to the postseason with a win.

Feature Game: De Pere (5-0) at Pulaski (4-1) –
De Pere has control of the FRCC-North thanks to a perfect 5-0 league record, but a couple teams remain in the picture with a chance. One of those is Pulaski, who sits at 4-1 in the conference and 6-1 overall. The Raiders rebounded from their first loss of the season a couple weeks ago with a 21-7 decision over West De Pere in Week 7.
