
Carol M. Hauser, age 85, of Marion passed away on September 25, 2021, at The Pines Post-Acute and Memory Care in Embarrass.
The former Carol Mae Genskow was born October 24, 1935, to the late William and Ella (Fraedrich) Genskow at the family home in the Town of Grant, Shawano County. She grew up on the family farm with 8 sisters and 1 brother. She attended the Valley View grade school through 8th grade and then attended Marion High School graduating on May 20, 1952. She graduated from the Langlade County Normal School (Antigo Teacher’s College) on May 27, 1954. Carol’s first teaching job was at the Fairview Country School and then she taught third grade at Marion Elementary School until her marriage. Carol continued her education while teaching at UW-Stevens Point with summer classes.
After her marriage to Richard Hauser on October 26, 1963, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Tigerton, Carol farmed with her husband in the Town of DuPont. They had one daughter Carrie. After selling the farm, they built a home on the Marion Pond. They enjoyed years of fishing and taking care of the yard and flower beds. Carol volunteered at the Marion Library. She was a lover of animals especially cats and enjoyed reading, cooking, and baking. Later, they moved to an apartment where Carol continued to live after Richard passed away on August 8, 2004. She then went to live with her granddaughter’s family in Medford in the fall of 2017, before moving to The Pines in July of 2018. While living at The Pines, Carol enjoyed attending the church services and activities, setting jigsaw puzzles and was always happy when staff brought their cats in for a visit.
Carol was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marion and St. Mary’s Altar Society. For many years, she prepared the altar and communion for the worship services making sure everything was clean and neat. She also helped with the funeral lunches.
Carol is survived by her granddaughter Erica (Elias) Guglielmotto, great grandchildren Spencer and Serenity Guglielmotto, brothers-in-law Ralph Wuske and Pat Hauser, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews from her family and Richard’s family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, her daughter Carrie, one brother Milton “Jim” Genskow, and eight sisters, Elda (Lorenzo) Balke, Anita (Anthony) Schecklman, Edna (Fred) Henselin. Gladys (Joseph) Wenner, Betty (Ernest) Hirt, Ruby (Sylvester) Schmidt, June (Edward) Schecklman and Arlene Wuske. She is also preceded in death by several nieces and nephews and Richard’s brothers and sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 2nd at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marion. Fr. Matthew Settle will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary, both of Marion.
