Richard “Rick” Jobst, age 77 of rural Marion passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at his home.
Richard John Jobst was born on September 27, 1943, in South Milwaukee to Henry and Anita (Lauters) Jobst. He grew up in South Milwaukee and graduated from high school in 1961. Rick worked a year before attending Stout State University in Menomonie, Wisconsin, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts Education. He was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. He earned his master’s degree in 1967. Rick was united in marriage on June 17, 1967, to Carola E. Taylor in La Crosse and the couple were blessed with four children. He taught Graphics at West Allis Central High School for 33 years, retiring in 1999.
Rick was always interested in animals and land; he acquired property near Big Falls in 1969. In the following years he bought more land. He enjoyed raising steers, pigs, chickens, and various other small fowl. In 1969 the couple traveled to nine European countries; and continued to enjoy traveling throughout the United States.
Hunting and fishing were his greatest pastimes, especially during his retirement. Their cabin on Pine Lake near Hiles, Wisconsin, was often a favorite place to visit and fish. The Lions Club in Big Falls was a major part of his life during retirement. Rick was a proud member; he actively volunteered with countless projects and served as Club President for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Carola; and four children, Ronda (Ben) Karvonen of Muskego, Stephanie (Andrew) Dingman of Oak Park, IL, Jason (Jacqueline) Jobst of Marion, and Mandy (Steve) Podrez of Wind Lake. There are nine grandchildren: Allyson and Caleb Nell; Julia, Samuel and Joshua Dingman; Chase and Reese Podrez; Ashley (Brad) Frank; and Maxwell (Angela) Lazich. There is one great granddaughter, Nora Frank. He is further survived by a brother, Eugene (Janice) Jobst; a sister, Diane (Hugh) Morgan; one brother-in-law, Carson (Gudrun) Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Betty Ann; and a brother-in-law, Chris Taylor.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Rick’s Birthday, Monday, September 27th at 5:00 PM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church – Big Falls, N10685 Peterson Rd., Marion, WI 54950. Rev. Janice Kuder will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 PM until time of service at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of your own choice.
