Michael “Mike” Helms, age 64 formerly of Clintonville passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at Deer Valley Cares, Norwalk, Wisconsin.
Michael Ronald Helms was born on September 11, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to Ronald and Patricia (Costello) Helms. In 1969 he moved to Wisconsin with his mother. Patricia was later married to Raymond Marquardt and the family lived in Tigerton for a number of years. In the 1980’s Mike went to live with the Wegenke family in Clintonville and they cared for him for close to 36 years. He also worked for some time at Waupaca County Industries in Manawa. In 2019 he moved in with his sister in Hillsboro and in March of this year settled at an Adult Family Home in Norwalk.
Mike loved listening to all sorts of music, especially classic country. He always had a favorite recliner that he sat in. Mike will be remembered most for his contagious smile that lit up the room.
Survivors include his stepfather, Raymond “Frank” Marquardt of Hillsboro; and two siblings, Vicki (Bert) Gonzales of Hillsboro and Rick Helms of Kentucky. There are two nephews, Delbert (Paige) Welch and their daughter Oakley; Andres Gonzales and his daughters Ariana and Onika; and one niece, Caridad Gonzales and her son Mateo. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother Patricia in August of 1997; a brother, Frank Marquardt; and an infant nephew, Derek Welch.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 27th at 12:00 Noon at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Rev. Clifford Kessen will officiate and burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton.
