NORTHEAST WI, – The outlook is at a Moderate Threat level for severe weather in the late night hours tonight.
“Those are pretty rare here in Northeast Wisconsin, especially one this big,” said NBC Chief Meteorologist Cameron Moreland.
Moreland said it has been a long time since we have seen something like this.
“The last one with July 19, 2019 and we had a moderate risk for severe weather across Langlade County, Northern Oconto County and Northern Marinette County and that area was just raked over with 100 mph winds and there were trees down all over.”
He says the cell has been forming all day and the hardest hit area may be Northeast Wisconsin.
“Those storms are generally going to be super cells that will eventually form a squall line for our area,” said Moreland. The main threat is going to be hurricane force winds, straight-line winds and vortex tornados at the leading edge of the gust line.”
He added that frequent rain, cloud-to-ground lightening and hail are also possible.
“This would be a time to get prepared with your severe weather kits and know where you are going to seek shelter when needed.”
Power outages are also likely.
“Just get ready to hunker down this evening.”
