MILWAUKEE, WI- (Wisconsin Radio Network)- Tens of thousands of mostly unmasked people crammed Milwaukee’s Deer District for Game 6 of the NBA Finals. State health officials say that will result in a spike of COVID-19 cases. Deputy Heath Services Secretary, Julie Willems Van Dijk
“Half the state is fully vaccinated and so half the state is not, and so I assume the same applies to the people who were in the Deer District or in the arena. And I didn’t see half the participants wearing a mask. The fact that people were really boisterous and yelling loud, which is a great way to spread infection. The presence of the Delta variant in our state. I anticipate we’ll see additional cases as a result of those gatherings.
The game and subsequent celebrations coincide with an ongoing increase in new COVID-19 cases across Wisconsin, much of it attributable to the Delta variant.
