MADISON, WI- (Wisconsin Radio Network)- A warm summer weekend perfect for swimming is on tap for much of Wisconsin but people are warned to stay away from blue-green algae. The D-N-R says the algae can make both you and your pet sick and it’s most often found in lakes, ponds and slow-moving streams. The blue-green algae actually looks mostly green but it can also be a reddish-purple or brown and people can be exposed through inhaling. Officials say most Wisconsin lakes are not tested for the algae so it’s important to check conditions before jumping in.
