Olive “Ollie” Hoffmann, age 99, of Town of Pella, Shawano County, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at The Cottages on Golden Pond Memory Care, Shawano.
The former Olive Ethel Breitenfeldt was born on March 4, 1921 at home in the Town of Grant to Harry and Margaret (Sousek) Breitenfeldt. She was baptized on April 17, 1921 at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline by Pastor Wegner and confirmed on July 7, 1935 by Pastor Reuben Stubenvoll. She was united in marriage on June 15, 1946 to Harold E. Hoffmann at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline.
The Hoffmann farm has been in the family since 1861. The couple worked the land, milked cows, and had lots of chickens. For 30 years Ollie and Harold raised wild Canadian geese which were their pride and joy. After the couple sold the cows in 1976, they went on tours of the country. They saw all 50 states; and went to Alaska and Hawaii twice! The couple also went to five different countries in Europe. Harold passed away on June 1, 1991 just one week before their 45th anniversary.
Ollie always had a big garden and did a lot of canning, making jams and jellies for care packages at Christmas time. Ollie had a large black and red raspberry patch that she spent countless hours in. She was an excellent cook and an incredible baker. She also cut her own lawn which took 3 ½ hours to do with a riding lawn mower. Ollie enjoyed playing cards on Tuesdays in summer with a large group of ladies. On her 85th birthday she got to go up in a hot air balloon in Sedona, AZ.
Ollie was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Grant, where she was active for many years as Custodian. Ollie also served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Ladies Aid, was a member of the LWML, worked on the Funeral Committee, and took care of the flowers for the Altar.
Many who have been around Ollie could see her faith in God and living by Jesus’ example. She was also active in the Caroline community and loved making sure there were enough pies for the Colorama and cooking the tomato juice for the chili to be sold. The joy Ollie brought into life was contagious. Her strong personality, love for others, and always making sure there was enough food on the table for all Hoffmann reunions and any other dinners she hosted will always be remembered by many.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Lucinda “Cindy” Hoffmann of Tigerton; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold; an infant sister, Ludmila Breitenfeldt; a brother, Waldo (Elaine) Breitenfeldt; and a sister, Aura (LeRoy) Romberg. Ollie was further preceded by two brothers-in-law, Louis (Ruth) Hoffmann and Raymond Hoffmann, one sister-in-law, Lucille (LeRoy) Behling; two nieces, Diane Romberg and Betty Breitenfeldt-VanderKinter; two nephews, Lee Brian Romberg and Dave Lee Romberg; and a great niece, Holly Wearing.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 11th, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Grant. Rev. Dean Suehring will officiate and burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Caroline. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. Immediately following the burial, everyone is invited to the Grant Town Hall for food and fellowship. Please bring along your favorite lawn chair.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church would be appreciated by her family. Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Marion, is assisting with the arrangements. Please go to www.beil-didier.com to sign the online guestbook or to send a card to the family.
We wish to thank all the nurses and staff at The Cottages and with Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care given to Ollie.
A Golden Heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands now rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
