Wisconsin doctors are looking at youth sports as a potential place where COVID-19 is spreading. Over the last few weeks, the state has seen a 56-percent increase in cases among children. Doctor Gregory DeMuri is an infectious disease specialist at U-W Health. DeMuri says things may have become lax at sporting events and some outbreaks have been connected to youth sports and activities outside the classroom. W-I-A-A deputy director Wade Labecki pushes back, saying he hasn’t seen any documented instances that prove school sports have contributed to the spread of the virus. He calls it a “generalization” that has been thrown out without any backing.
