
Patrick “Pat” Berg, age 75, of Tigerton passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 at his home.
Patrick George Berg was born on October 20, 1945 in Shawano to Anthony and Helen (Brady) Berg. He grew up in Tigerton and graduated from Tigerton High School in 1963. Pat was united in marriage on January 8, 1966 to Jean M. Kryll at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton, and the couple were blessed with four sons. In his early days, Pat learned to operate heavy equipment and worked for several Tigerton area companies. He was employed for some time by Merlin Much, then David Nero, and by Schroeder Oil & Excavating. Next, he worked for the Shawano County Highway Department for a number of years. In 2003 he started his own business, Pat Berg Excavating.
Pat was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton, where he was active as a Trustee and as a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was ordained as a Deacon in 2005 and went on the serve the Four Parish Catholic Family of St. Anthony’s – Tigerton, Holy Family – Wittenberg, St. Mary’s – Marion, and St. Mary’s – Leopolis. He met lots of folks over the years and was an inspiration to everyone he encountered by listening and sharing his deep faith with them.
Pat was always helping others, whether he was working as an EMT with Tigerton Area Ambulance, serving on the Tigerton Village Board, or volunteering for 29 years with the Tigerton Fire Department. He enjoyed working outdoors, operating heavy equipment, and riding his Harley-Davidson. Pat even became a member of the “Iron Butt Association”, riding his motorcycle 1,000 miles in just 24 hours! He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Pat will be remembered most as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jean; and four sons, Tim Berg of Oshkosh, Jeff (Kim) Berg of Neenah, Mike Berg of Tigerton, and Rick (Pam) Berg of Ankeny, Iowa. There are 11 grandchildren: Sam, Alana, Nathan, Megan, Nicholas, Joshua, Kelsey, Jared, Nathaniel, Rachel, and Claire. There are three siblings: Monica (Ken) Golomski of Green Bay, Cathy (Jim) Hoffmann of Green Bay, and Bill (Carol) Berg of Tigerton. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Pat was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Berg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 24th at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. Fr. Matthew Settle will officiate and inurnment will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of mass at the church.
