WEYAUWEGA, WI- The Weyauwega Fire Department is taking time to send a reminder that spring time can be a time for fires. Not only do outside fires occur this time of year, but house fires as well. One way to prevent a fire in the home is to avoid using extension cords whenever possible. Fire officials say they are for temporary use only and people should always ensure that they are rated for the application of use. It is important to remember not to tack a cord to a wall or run under a rug. Extension cords, if used, should be plugged directly into wall outlets. It is also important to remember that there should only be one surge protector or power strip plugged into a single duplex or electrical outlet and extension cords or power strips should not be connected to each other.
