On April 16, 2021 at approximately 12:34pm The New London Fire Department and Waupaca DNR Wildland Fire Unit was dispatched for a fire in the back lot of Huckleberry Acres Campground south of New London.
Upon arrival New London Firefighters found four campers, two sheds, and a pickup truck engulfed in fire. As firefighters charged hose lines with water, a propane tank in the fire blew up causing a loud explosion. There were additional explosions caused by other 20- 30 pound propane tanks blowing up.
The New London Fire Department was assisted by Dale Fire, Fremont Fire, Weyauwega Fire, Manawa Fire, Hortonville Fire and Bear Creek Fire. The Waupaca Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control at the scene. The New London Fire Department remained on the scene until 4:44pm. The cause is under investigation but persons at the scene stated that they observed one of the small sheds on fire first.
