
Arthur “Art” Joerres, age 87, of Clintonville passed away Monday morning, March 15, 2021 at The Pines Post-Acute & Memory Care.
Arthur Robert Joerres was born on May 19, 1933 in Oak Creek to Hubert and Sophie (Schmidt) Joerres. He grew up in South Milwaukee and graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1951. Art entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He was united in marriage on June 30, 1956 to Elesebeth “Betty” Glubka at St. James Catholic Church, Franklin, and the couple lived in South Milwaukee for many years. Art was employed for a short time as a meat cutter at Patrick Cudahy. Then he started working at Walker Forge Inc. in Racine in the hammer shop and then as a foreman. Art was transferred to the Clintonville plant in 1979. For 40 years he was the heart and soul of Walker Forge. Art was honored to lead the company as Plant Manager and eventually serve at Vice President of Operations, retiring in 1997.
Art was a longtime member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville, actively distributing communion to the homebound, serving on the Stewardship Committee, and involved with the new church Building Committee. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Choir for many years. Art belonged to the Catholic War Veterans in South Milwaukee and the Clintonville American Legion Post. He helped shape many local businesses as a founding member of the Clintonville Industrial Development Corporation.
Art loved playing tennis and going golfing; and was always very competitive and driven. He was a longtime member of the Riverside Golf Course. Art enjoyed watching the Packers and he was a proud shareholder. He made it to every one of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Art never missed a family event and will be remembered most for his quick-witted sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty; and five children, Kim Emer of Pleasant Prairie, Ellen Pearson of Golden Valley, MN, Jeffrey (Sarah) Joerres of Milwaukee, Sue (Mike) Malesa of Neenah, and David (Danielle) Joerres of Marion. There are 13 grandchildren: Nathan, Benjamin (Andressa), Elizabeth, Jillian (Michael), Abigail, Emily (Martin), Thomas (Rawlings), Michael, Madeline, Alexander (Brittany), Samuel, Halie (Joe), and Claire. There are 8 great grandchildren: Arthur, Olivia, Zara, Joanna, Finn, Theodore, Janie, and Everette. He is further survived by one sister, Jeanette Schoen of Racine, and many other relatives and friends.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley (Warren) Allhands; one brother, George (Helen) Joerres; and a sister-in-law, Lillian (Paul) Garbisch.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 20th at 11:00 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. Fr. Timothy Shillcox, O. Praem will officiate and inurnment will follow in the parish cemetery. Military Honors will be provided at the cemetery by members of the VFW Post 664, American Legion Post 63, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63, all of Clintonville. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of mass at the church.
