OCONTO, WI- Formal charges have been filed against a Suring man accused of sexual assault of a child.
36-year-old John E. Fredenburgh has been charged with three counts of Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child, five counts of Sexual Assault of A Child Under 16 Years of Age, Use of a Computer to Facilitate a Child Sex Crime, five counts
of Child Enticement, Causing Mental Harm to Child, Causing Child Under The Age of 13 to View/Listen to Sexual
Activity. Feredenburgh was also charged with Intimidation of a Victim.
Fredenburgh currently serves on the Suring Village Board and according to court records, served as a substitute teacher for the Suring School District since December. He also was a parent volunteer for two years for the school’s running club. According to police records, Fredenburgh was also a former Child Protective Services social worker for Marinette and Shawano counties, but that has not been confirmed by either county.
Oconto County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a sexual assault incident in the Village of Suring on Sunday, February 28. Fredenburgh was arrested at that time and booked into the Oconto County Jail.
According to court records, the girl said she and Fredenburgh had been in a sexual relationship from when she was age 13 to 16. The assaults were said to have occurred in his home, in a car, and on camping trips according to court documents. The girl claimed that Fredenburgh used his “Marinette County CPS badge” to get the rooms at a discount and said they also had sex in his Marinette County office.
Fredenburgh has been held on $1 million cash bond and will be back in court on March 12.
The matter remains under investigation, no further information is available.
