Eugene Kenneth Stuhr was born on January 3, 1946 on the family farm in the Town of Grant, Shawano County, to Elmer and Helen (Schmidt) Stuhr. He graduated from Marion High School in 1964. Gene was united in marriage on November 5, 1966 to Sharon J. Hauser at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marion.
In his early days, Gene drove stock car at Shawano Speedway which led to him becoming a mechanic at Hornburg Ford in Hartland. Then he entered the Army National Guard and was stationed stateside for the duration of his service. He was employed for a short time at Welch Fire Equipment in Marion where he improved his welding skills. Gene was a mechanic for some time at Clintonville Motors. Then for 5 years he managed and operated Gene’s Mobil Service Station in Marion. He spent a few years on the City of Marion Street Department, and he volunteered for a short time with the Marion Fire Department.
Gene went on to Milwaukee Area Technical College to earn his degree in Police Science. In 1975 he began his career with the Marion Police Department, and he served as Assistant Chief until retiring in 1995. Gene was always very handy; could fix just about anything; and he took great pride in his work. So it was just natural that he started Gene’s Repair out of his home workshop doing all sorts of projects, mechanic work, and customized exhaust systems for folks all around the area.
Gene liked driving motorcoach for Huettl Tours out of Seymour and he became a CDL Examiner, was a bus dispatcher, and worked as the Director of Operations. For just a few years he drove semi-truck for Kohel Interstate Transport out of Marion. For close to 10 years, Gene was owner & operator of Stuhr Tours and he really enjoyed driving for bus tours all around the country. He also drove motor coach for Nationwide Travelers during this same time frame. Finally, he liked to stay busy delivering trucks for Marion Body Works.
Gene was a member of Grace Family Church in Marion. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Gene will be remembered most for his wonderful sense of humor and always being there to help someone in need.
