MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) – As the state continues to see climbing COVID-19 cases rates and hospitalizations, Governor Tony Evers has a blunt message
“If we want to do this right, and stop it in its tracks, people have to wear a freaking mask. Simple as that.”
Governor Tony Evers asks leaders to lead, when it comes to wearing masks.
“Please, leaders, we need to send a message that wearing a mask is the most important part of this equation. And if we are not going to understand that, we are going to continue to struggle in the state of Wisconsin.”
Evers predicted that “more than a handful” of those attending President Trump’s rally at the Green Bay airport Friday afternoon would fail to do so.
“How can we have the people of Wisconsin believe that mask wearing is important, when we see the president, he’s coming to Green Bay today, right? I bet you there will be more than a handful of people in that crowd that aren’t wearing a mask. We need to have our leaders wearing a mask, when they have fundraisers, as they have. And you see the pictures of a hundred plus people in a small room, no one wearing a mask. That sends a message that it’s not important.”
The state Department of Health Services reported another 5,096 new COVID-19 cases and 24 more deaths over the previous 24 hours.
With 59 deaths reported on Saturday, Wisconsin surpassed 2,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19. Sixteen more on Sunday brought the total to 2,047 lives lost since the start of the global pandemic.
