
Deric A. “Josh” Olson a/k/a Josh “Wishafella” Wischmann, age 36 of Shawano, formerly of Middle Village, began his journey to the Spirit World on Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Shawano.
Josh was born October 24, 1983 in Madison, Wisconsin, a son of Lia (Tucker) Olson and the late Christopher Wischmann. He attended Tribal School and later Menominee Indian High School. Following high school, Josh enrolled at the College of Menominee Nation where he studied computers and business. During the COVID pandemic, Josh was helping his family. He had worked in construction most of his life.
Josh was a loving and caring man whose family meant everything to him. He took an active role in his children’s education and upbringing. Josh enjoyed fishing, working out, reading, and he was a creative artist. He loved learning something new every day.
Survivors include his children, Layla Lyons, Joshua “Baby Josh” Lyons, Tristan “Eagle Boy” Lyons, and Elila “Jo” Lyons, all of Shawano; his mother, Lia Olson, his adopting grandparents, David and Charlie Wischmann; and his soul mate of 18 years, Tamara “Babatha” Lyons, of Shawano. He is further survived by his siblings, Alan Fish of Keshena, Mylia Olson of Shawano, Deija Rae Wilson of Keshena, and Kevin Lyons of Keshena; his special aunt, Colleen “Boodie” (Allen) Waubanascum; his “mother-in-law”, Deb Pocan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Tucker and Agnes Long.
Traditional Native American services for Josh Olson will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Deb Pocan residence, N2028 Norway Pine Road, Middle Village. Samantha Grignon will officiate. Visitation will begin at the Pocan residence at 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 4, 2020, and continue until the service on Tuesday. Due to COVID-19, the family requests masks be worn while at the residence and social distancing be followed to the best of your ability.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials be designated for his children’s education fund.
