SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano County Fair is ready to kick-off for 2020. While the fair will look a little different, there will be much of the same available for people to enjoy.
Fair Promoter Brad Luepke released a list of non-profit vendors that will and will not be open this year.
When it comes to rides, Luepke says some of the favorites are back.
“In past years we have had 23-26 rides and this year we will have between 16-20, so it is not a huge dropoff.”
The midway will have hand sanitizer stations for patrons when to use, especially when they come off of rides.
This year’s fair will have some significant changes.
“There will be no face to face judging this year,” Luepke said. “We are not holding the Kiddie Tractor Pull this year or the Old Fashion Mixing Contest or Cornhole Tournament.
It was announced earlier that Bingo would not be held this year.
These years Friday night auction will also be moved to the Crawford Center to allow for more room, but animals will not be included.
“They will have a screen with a photo for the bidders to use.”
Luepke says the 2020 fair will have more horses then they usually do.
“The entries for the horses are up by quite a bit,” Luepke said. “They are on the backside of the fairgrounds by the Crawford Center so people should go check that out.”
He says it can be an exhibit that is missed.
This year will add some new food vendors on the midway and also a seal show by the grandstand.
For those that need to get their cheese curd fix, there will not be a shortage this year.
“We have three or four cheese curd stands this year, so you will have plenty of options.”
Luepke told TCHDailyNews.com that he would like to get a cheese curd contest going.
One of the biggest expected changes will be attendance. Organizers are expecting fewer people to come this year due to COVID-19 concerns.
“That is the unknown right now,” Luepke said. “We want people to come, but we understand if they don’t.
As far as operation, Luepke said the success of the fair will be if adults be adults.
“We will not be checking temperatures, but we highly encourage people to check before they leave.”
Luepke says masking is not mandatory.
“Just show respect to one another, we are all adults and we can make adult decisions. We can do this, but it comes down to personal choice and how you conduct yourself and if we do that, we will have one heck of a fair.
The opening ceremonies are Wednesday night. Shawano County Sheriff Adam Bieber is speaking.
