Gary A. Pabelick, age 63, of Clintonville passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020 at his home.
Gary Albert Pabelick was born on July 30, 1956 in Milwaukee to Albert and Janet (Knowlton) Pabelick. He grew up in the Milwaukee area where he attended South Division High School. Gary entered the U.S. Army and served stateside during Vietnam from Nov. 2, 1973 to Apr. 15, 1974. On Feb. 6, 1976 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Persian Gulf War with Operation Desert Storm. After a long career as a diesel engine technician in the Navy he retired on Sept. 30, 1995.
In his early days, Gary participated in parades and activities for a number of years with the Imperials of St. Patrick’s Drum & Bugle Corps in Milwaukee. He was gifted on the drums and was also an excellent guitar player. While in the Navy he played in several bands. Gary was a Life Member and active in the VFW Post and the American Legion Post, both of Clintonville. He was proud to help out fellow veterans with all sorts of projects.
Gary enjoyed volunteering for “Hand of Hope” at the concession stand at Lambeau Field. He was a master burger cook. His other interests included watching NASCAR, the Green Bay Packers, and the Milwaukee Brewers play. Gary’s favorite pastime was spending time outdoors, especially fishing.
Survivors include one daughter, Destiny Pabelick of Clintonville; and three siblings, Janell Pabelick of Oconto, Greg (Christina) Pabelick of Green Bay, and Janene (Steve) Salewsky of Lena. Gary is also survived by a dear friend, Nancy DuChateau of Clintonville; her daughters, Meghan Snell of Clintonville and Galina Kariean of Shawano; her son, Joseph VanHorn of De Pere; and her grandson, Isaiah Rada. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8th at 12:00 Noon at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Rev. Jill Meyer will officiate and inurnment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by members of the VFW Post 664, American Legion Post 63, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63, all of Clintonville.
A special thanks to all the nurses with ThedaCare at Home Hospice, especially Katie and Brandy; and the Oncology Team at ThedaCare Medical Center, Shawano, for the excellent care given. We also wish to thank crisis counselor Chris from Waupaca County Behavioral Health for the support provided to Gary.
