David A. “Dave” Habeck, age 61 of Leopolis, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2020. He died as a result of complications from Lyme disease, which he contracted ten years ago.
Dave was born November 19, 1958 in Shawano, a son of Leon and Estelle (Molyneux) Habeck. He was a member of the Shawano High School class of 1977. Dave took up music at the age of 16, and was a pro at tennis. He worked at Lee’s Music and Mary’s Music before going to work as a lineman at Asplundh. Dave then attended North Central Technical School where he earned his Associates Degree in Business. On August 10, 1985 Dave and Laura Lindner were married on her parents’ farm and the reception was held at Hayman Falls.
His greatest passion was writing songs and playing music. It was his life. On the day his daughter was born Dave wrote a song titled “Oh Angelina” which was featured on his first album, “Western Plains”, by Habeck and Butz. His second album, “The Circle Meets Itself Each Time Around,” was a solo album which came out in 1981. Dave co-founded the band Burnt Toast and Jam with his friends, and they recorded three albums. For many years, Dave taught guitar lessons at his home and the homes of his students. He then went to work at Jungle Music where he continued to teach guitar as well as the ukulele, mandolin, and acoustic guitar. Dave eventually opened Makin’ Music where he continued to share his talents and love of music with his students. To say he made an impression on many young musicians would be an understatement. Not only did he influence his students, but he impacted everyone’s life through music. Dave took many kids under his wing and guided them on a positive path in their lives. Many of his students wouldn’t be where they are today if it weren’t for his positive attitude and influence. Dave’s many hobbies included being outdoors where he enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, campfires, and cross-country skiing (he also LOVED vacuuming!). But most of all, Dave cherished his time with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren.
Those he left too soon include his loving wife, Laura, of Leopolis; his precious daughter, Angelina Warta and son-in law Matt Warta of Round Rock, TX; five treasured grandchildren, Adrianna Warta of Green Bay, and Isabella, Gabriella, Grayson, and Bronson Warta, all of Round Rock, TX; his brother and sister, Greg (Mary) Habeck of De Pere and Beth (Michael Peters) Habeck of Bonduel; his step-mom Susie (Jerry) Habeck-Schafelke of Appleton; his bonus siblings, Nancy (Greg) DeGrave of Combined Locks, and Cindy Monroe, Rick Bayer, and Linda (Jeff) Engel, all of Shawano; his faithful companions Meeko, Dilly, Dude, Ellie Mae, Rayna, and Roscoe; and his grand-puppies, Lily and Luna. He was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle; his father, Leon; his brother, Bobby Bayer; and his grandchild, Sebastian.
A celebration of Dave’s life will take place on Monday, July 13, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at his home located at W13061 Leopolis Road, Leopolis, WI 54948. In lieu of flowers and plants, please consider making a donation to Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary in Marion, WI or a local music organization in Dave’s name.
