
Roy H. Schmidt, age 99, of Tigerton passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Homme Home of Wittenberg.
Roy Henry Schmidt was born on October 13, 1920 in Tigerton to Herman and Adella (Ortner) Schmidt Sr. He grew up in the Tigerton area and went to the Blue Ribbon School in Split Rock. Roy entered the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines during WWII from 1944 – 1946. In the military he learned to operate heavy equipment.
For many years, Roy dairy farmed in the Town of Fairbanks, Shawano County. Roy and his brother Herman also did logging for some time with Chuck Sambs in Tigerton. In the late 1990’s, Roy moved from the farm into town to Riverview Apartments.
He is a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigerton. Roy’s favorite pastime was trout fishing in the stream that ran through his farmland. He will be remembered most as a quiet and soft-spoken gentleman.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister and three infant brothers; four sisters, Mary Ann (Elmer) Schmidt, Ada (Ben) Zehren, Esther (Andrew) Pauls, and Mae (Melvin) Sovinski; and one brother Herman (Diana) Schmidt Jr.
Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 2:00 PM at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton. Fr. Matthew Settle will officiate and inurnment will be at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Military Honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post 239, Tigerton. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home.
