SHAWANO, WI – The Class of 2020 is being recognized Friday night in a virtual way.
The graduates will get a chance to partake in a group watch of two videos that have been put together.
“On our Facebook page and our youtube page, we are going to put on our senior video and virtual graduation video,” said Principal Scott Zwirschitz. “We had our class president and our four valedictorian and others pre-record the speeches.”
Zwirschitz says this is not meant to replace graduation, but it does offer the seniors something on what would have been graduation night.
“We will basically follow our graduation agenda, but we are hoping to have a graduation in August,” he told the school board at the last meeting.
Since Wednesday night, the area around Shawano School has been decorated to say thank you to all the seniors.
“We have yard signs with all of our graduates that people can drive by and view from their cars,” Zwirschitz said. “Stay in your vehicle and keep moving and remember to stay safe.”
WTCH AM 960 & 96.1 FM is also participating. News Director Brad Williams visited in with about 24 of the Seniors to talk about their time as a student at Shawano Community High School.
The interviews will be played along with music selections from some of the high school concerts earlier this year.
The program will air from 7:30pm to 9:00pm on WTCH.
