MADISON, WI – New and upcoming drivers will not need to pass a road test to obtain a driver’s license. The announcement Tuesday morning was made in response to COVID-19 concerns. DMV officials say the change will begin next Monday May 11.
Teens will be able to receive a waiver on their license application, but they need to have completed classroom instruction. They also need to have an instruction permit and be violation free for at least six months prior to testing, have completed behind the wheel training and had at least 30 hours of driving with a parent or sponsor who is willing to sign the road test waiver.
