SHAWANO, WI – A former treasurer from the Pella Fire Department has entered a not-guilty plea after being accused of stealing money from the Fire Department.
46-year-old Lyle Krueger is charged a total of four counts, including theft in a business setting.
According to the complaint, Krueger was in charge of managing the department’s funds from home.
The complaint states that Krueger admitted to taking the funds and did not pay any back.
The alleged thefts occurred between October 2018 and August 2019 and was eventually noticed by the fire chief.
Krueger said the issue started when he became injured and was laid off and needed money to save his house, according to the compaint. The investigation also determined that there was withdrawls at the casinos in the area.
