SURING, WI – A brush fire that got out of control resulted in the death of a Suring man earlier this week.
81-year-old Kenneth Cisler suffered significant burns to his lower extremities and passed away after being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Oconto County Sheriff Chief Deputy Darren Laskowski says say Cisler was trying to contain a grass fire near his home.
“He was burning brush and leaves and the fire got away on him.”
Officials say they the fire spread into a wooded area, but how exactly Cisler suffered fatal burns is still being determined.
“In 26 years of doing this profession, this was the first one that I have seen where a brush fire was involved in causing the death of an individual,” said Laskowski.
No buildings were in danger from the blaze.
Laskowski said at that time a burning ban was put in place as the elements were not safe for burning.
“It is always important to follow the guidelines put in place because you never know what might happen.”
