PULASKI, WI – The Shawano County Farm Bureau has announced the cancelation of the 2020 Brunch on the Farm.
Christa Hoffman, Brunch Chair says it came down to current restrictions that are in place and the window of time they have.
“We knew that we were not going to have the volunteer force needed for an event like this,” said Hoffman. “We have more than 4,000 people that attend every year and looking at the policies the way they are now, we don’t believe that an event our size is going to be allowed by the end of June.”
The group says they were disheartened to make the decision and cited the health and safety of the planning committee, volunteers and guests as their top priority.
“We are not going to be able to get this planned effectively if we cannot meet face to face before June.”
This year’s event was scheduled to be hosted by Nischke’s Back 40 Acres in Pulaski.
“They committed last summer already and they are planning on hosting the 2021 event for us as well,” Hoffman said.
She says the family has started their planning for this year’s event since January.
“They have recently updated their farm and they are one of the farm families that we are excited to highlight in Shawano County.”
Hoffman says the Brunch on the Farm is the highlight of June Dairy Month and it is disappointing to cancel the event since it has a big objective.
“One of the biggest things that we are losing this year is the opportunity for our community to get out on a dairy farm and see what agriculture looks like today.”
Hoffman says the idea of the Brunch of the Farm is an educational event.
The Shawano County Farm Bureau is not just shutting down for the year. Hoffman says they are working on two big objectives, a program to establish a milk donation fund to work with different organizations.
“We are putting together a fund for organizations that need donations of milk and we are looking for groups that are looking to give back to our farmers.”
Hoffman says the Farm Bureau will partner with Shawano County organizations and agribusinesses to recognize farmers in the community and they are in the beginning stages with that.
This would include food pantries and school programs since one of the biggest challenges that the agriculture community is battling right now is really low milk prices and food insecurity with people not working.
Outagamie County announced the cancelation of their farm breakfast earlier this week.
