MARION, WI – A special funeral was held in Marion on Tuesday and was done in a unique way.
“It was an awesome sight to see our little community come together,” said Marion Chief of Police Kevin Schultz.
A funeral procession down Main Street was more like a memorial parade as friends, family and community members lined the streets to pay their respects to Marlea Mikulski.
Schultz says some people were standing outside their vehicle and some stayed inside their parked vehicle as social distancing was taking place.
The method was put in place to allow people to attend, but also observe social distancing.
“Some had signs and flowers up and down Main Street.”
Dozens of vehicles were included, along with school buses.
“Marlea was a school bus driver for the district for a number of years so the school district brought busses to take part in the procession as well.”
Schultz says a small group of people were able to attend the actual funeral service, but the rest waited.
“Some family members were actually outside of the funeral home waiting for the procession as well.”
Schultz called it a unique and positive response to a unique situation.
