SHAWANO, WI – A white tent that has been put up outside of ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano is part of the hospital’s efforts to manage supplies, equipment and adjustment of care plans, and not a tent that is specifically set up for driveby COVID-19 testing.
“Since the global outbreak of Coronavirus COVID-19, we have been on a quiet, calm but utterly focused state of high alert. We have been implementing restricted visitor access, managing supplies and equipment, and adjusting care plans to focus on critical areas.,” said Dr. Mark Cockley, ThedaCare Chief Clinical Officer.
Hospital officials say nobody should just drive up or go to the tent unless they are directed to do so by a physician.
“As part of our ongoing assessment to increase capacity for patient care, there are multiple efforts underway including staging and repurposing rooms to provide virus-related treatment and setting up temporary structures at our hospitals that will allow flexibility with added sheltered space to assist us in the care needs of our community,” Dr. Cockley said.
As this situation unfolds, ThedaCare will continue to take additional steps to creatively and aggressively manage inpatient volume in order to accept new and more urgent cases.
The use of the tent could change later. It is available for people and supplies as needed.
