MENOMINEE, WI – Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department announced Tuesday that there is a confirmed case in Menominee County.
This is the first confirmed case in Menominee County.
The individual is under isolation as requested by local, state, and federal recommendations.
“We have been preparing for and anticipating confirmed cases in Shawano and Menominee Counties. We are working closely with the Wisconsin Department
of Health Services (DHS) to ensure we are taking all of the appropriate steps,” said Vicki Dantoin, Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Officer.
The Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) responsibilities include:
● Identifying and contacting anyone who has been in close contact with a person who has COVID-19. These people are asked to quarantine themselves for 14 days from their exposure and will be monitored for fever and respiratory symptoms. People with symptoms are tested for COVID-19.
● Providing guidance to clinicians regarding testing.
● Preparing for community spread of COVID-19.
Local public health in Shawano and Menominee are keeping track of this outbreak. We are working with our local, state, and federal partners to deal quickly and effectively when people have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been around people who have been infected with the coronavirus. The local public health agencies of Shawano and Menominee Counties and Tribes want to remind everyone of the important steps to protect yourself and others:
● Stay home as much as you can, especially if you are sick.
● Cover coughs and sneezes.
● Avoid touching your face.
● Wash your hands often with soap and water.
● Stay at least 6 feet away from other people.
● Always call before going to see a medical provider.
● Remain in quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms if you have been exposed to someone sick.
● Remain in isolation for at least 7 days after symptoms start and 72 hours after fever is gone (without the aid of medication) and cough or other symptoms have improved.
Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department wants to stress how crucial it is right now to stay home and practice social distancing if you must go out.
