OCONTO, WI – Wisconsin health officials have confirmed the first case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Oconto County. Health officials are investigating how the person may have become infected and will be contacting individuals who may have had close contact with the patient.
“We are in daily contact with this individual to monitor their symptoms and ensure they are receiving support to be able to isolate at home. The Oconto County Health Department is ready to deal with this situation and will continue to work with Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and our local partners to make sure our community remains safe and healthy.” said Deb Konitzer, Oconto County Health
Officer. “The best thing people can do is practice every day good health habits – cover your coughs and sneezes by coughing into your upper sleeve, wash your hands often, and stay home if you’re sick. Everyone should be following the Safer at Home order provided by Governor Evers which limits all non-essential travel and prohibits social gatherings. These efforts can help to slow the spread of the virus.” adds Konitzer.
Individuals should practice important everyday prevention measures like:
When in public, stay at least 6 feet away from others.
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Carry and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if hand washing is not an option.
Do not touch your face (eyes, mouth, nose).
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. You can also
cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve
Do not share eating utensils, water bottles, beverage containers or other personal items.
Stay home when you are sick.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
ONEIDA COUNTY CONFIRMS 1 POSITIVE CASE
The Oneida County Health Department has confirmed that one person in the county has no tested positive for COVID-19.
The Health Department released that the individual is in their 20’s and has a well-known history of travel.
The person is in isolation and county health officials are working to determine how the person may have become infected.
