NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – The Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction raised more than $405,000 this year to support junior livestock exhibitors at the Wisconsin State Fair and help young people continue growing in agriculture.
Money raised through the Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation supports scholarships, grants and awards for young exhibitors while helping reduce financial barriers tied to livestock projects.
Several area students were among this year’s scholarship recipients. Natalie Rieth of Oconto Falls received a $3,000 scholarship, while Cierra Schnell of Bonduel, Otto Schultz of Waupaca and Noah Spoelstra of Amherst each received $1,000 scholarships.
The Foundation awarded $57,000 in scholarships overall this year.
A new Youth Impact Grant program was also launched, providing another $22,500 to young livestock exhibitors. Alicia Schroeder of Freedom was among those recognized through the program for her work with a sheep project.
Foundation officials say the funding gives young people opportunities to build skills in animal care, leadership, record-keeping and communication while continuing their involvement in agriculture.
The Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions remains one of the major ways supporters of Wisconsin agriculture invest directly in the next generation of livestock exhibitors.
