SHAWANO, WI- While communities across the country celebrated National Night Out this week, Shawano is taking a different approach.
Instead of holding its event on the traditional first Tuesday in August, Shawano’s National Night Out is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11. According to Shawano Police Chief Mike Musolff, the decision was made to strengthen partnerships with neighboring public safety agencies.
“We pushed it back another week because we like to partner with other departments like Menominee County, Menominee Tribal and Menominee Conservation,” Musolff said. “That opens it up for us to be able to have them come to ours next week.”
Musolff said the schedule change also allowed members of the Shawano Police Department, along with other Shawano-area first responders, to participate in Menominee County’s National Night Out celebration this week before hosting their own event.
“We decided to go a little bit out of the norm because we want to show the teamwork between the agencies involved,” Musolff said.
National Night Out is an annual event that promotes positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Shawano’s celebration will feature family-friendly activities, opportunities to meet police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel, along with displays from several regional public safety agencies.
Musolff said the event is about more than just showcasing emergency services, it’s an opportunity to build trust and strengthen relationships throughout the region.
Shawano’s National Night Out will be held Tuesday, August 11, giving residents the chance to meet first responders from across Shawano and Menominee counties while enjoying an evening focused on community engagement and public safety.
