SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – Planning for the new Shawano County Government Center continues to move forward, but county leaders say detailed floor plans will not be released publicly because of security concerns.
County Board Chairman Tom Kautza said the county has intentionally chosen not to make the building’s floor plans available, citing the need to protect the future facility.
“They don’t want to show the floor plans open to the public simply for security reasons,” Kautza said.
He explained that releasing detailed layouts could provide a roadmap for someone attempting to breach or compromise the building, making security a top priority as the project advances.
While the public won’t see the building plans, work on the project is continuing behind the scenes. Kautza said the first phase of construction is focused on preparing the site and completing the structural work needed to get the project underway.
“This first section would be $29 million, and that would be to get the project started and to get a lot of the structural items done,” Kautza said.
The initial $29 million investment will fund site preparation, concrete work, and structural steel for the new Government Center. County officials say additional phases of the project will follow as construction progresses.
