Sauerkraut Festival Returns with Food, Music and Family Fun

BEAR CREEK, WI – Organizers are putting the finishing touches on this year’s Sauerkraut Festival, promising a weekend packed with food, entertainment, and activities for all ages.

Committee member Kellie Zahn says the festival offers much more than its signature sauerkraut meals.

“We have a cornhole tournament, live music happening Saturday evening, and then it continues rolling onto Sunday with Mass, tons of food, all sorts of things happening all weekend,” Zahn said. “There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a sauerkraut fan or not.”

Behind the scenes, dozens of volunteers have been busy preparing the large quantities of food needed to serve the crowds expected throughout the weekend.

Committee member Kris Stilen says the amount of food prepared each year is impressive, especially when it comes to the festival’s signature sauerkraut dishes.

“We actually go through 38 gallons of kraut to prepare our dinner for just that two-and-a-half-hour period that we serve,” Stilen said. “We use it to make sauerkraut salad.”

In addition to the festival’s well-known sauerkraut dinners, volunteers will prepare nearly 60 pounds of pulled pork for visitors.

Festival organizers encourage residents and visitors alike to come out and enjoy the food, live entertainment, games, and community fellowship throughout the weekend.
