CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI – The road to a Wisconsin American Legion Baseball 17-U State Championship has reached the elimination stage, and two area teams remain alive with their seasons on the line Monday night.
Seymour and West De Pere will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in an elimination game for Seymour.
West De Pere entered the tournament as one of the favorites and has backed it up with strong performances through the opening rounds. The team opened tournament play Friday with a convincing 9-1 victory over Eau Claire before continuing its run through the winners’ bracket with a 4-0 shutout win over Watertown on Saturday.
West De Pere then faced a tough test Sunday night against Chippewa Falls, but came through with a 2-1 victory to remain unbeaten in the tournament and improve to 23-8 overall.
Seymour has taken a more challenging route but continues to find ways to win. The team opened the tournament Friday with an impressive 8-1 victory over the Appleton Doubledays, advancing to the winners’ bracket.
Seymour suffered its first setback Saturday, falling 6-5 to Chippewa Falls in a tightly contested matchup. Facing elimination Sunday, Seymour responded with one of its best performances of the tournament, defeating Middleton 10-2 to keep its state championship hopes alive.
Seymour enters Monday’s matchup with a 12-8 record, while West De Pere brings a 23-8 mark into the elimination game.
