NEW LONDON, WI – One person died following a fire at an apartment complex in New London on Sunday afternoon, according to the New London Police Department.
Emergency crews were dispatched to Franklin Park Apartments, located at 505 Division Street, at approximately 2:37 p.m. after receiving reports of smoke coming from the building.
Authorities confirmed that one resident was found dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
The fire prompted the evacuation of residents from the apartment complex. Several people have been displaced as a result of the incident and are receiving temporary housing assistance through the American Red Cross.
Franklin Park Apartments is operated by the New London Housing Authority.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials have not released additional details about what may have led to the incident.
