NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – Several Northeast Wisconsin standouts are among the state’s top returning defensive backs after being recognized in the latest Bound Wisconsin Class of 2027 Defensive Back Rankings.
Leading the local group is West De Pere safety Cooper Borowicz, who earned the No. 6 ranking in Wisconsin following a standout junior season. Borowicz helped lead the Phantoms to an undefeated season and the WIAA Division 2 state championship, finishing with 87 tackles and four interceptions. He also earned First Team All-Fox River Classic Conference honors, was named to the WFCA All-Region Team, and recently committed to continue his football career at Northern Michigan University.
Bay Port’s Rex Helms also landed in the state’s top 15, coming in at No. 14. The Pirates’ safety recorded 38 tackles and eight interceptions during his junior campaign despite missing a pair of regular-season games. His performance has already generated college interest from Northern Michigan, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-River Falls.
Several other area athletes were recognized on Bound Wisconsin’s “Others to Watch” list, highlighting players expected to make an impact during the upcoming season.
That group includes Brayden Sellen of Crivitz, Trevor Verhagen of Little Chute, Quinn Wesenberg of Bonduel, and Braun Wotruba of Pulaski, each earning recognition as promising defensive back prospects in the Class of 2027.
