CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI – The Seymour American Legion 17U baseball team will begin its quest for a state championship Friday afternoon when it takes the field at the Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Association 17-Under State Tournament in Chippewa Falls.
Seymour, which enters the double-elimination tournament with an 11-6 record, is scheduled to face the Appleton Doubledays (12-5) at 4 p.m. Friday at Gannon Field at Casper Park. The winner will advance to Saturday evening’s winner’s bracket game, while the losing team will continue play Saturday afternoon in the elimination bracket.
The eight-team tournament brings together some of Wisconsin’s top 17U American Legion programs, including Watertown, Middleton, West De Pere, Eau Claire, Appleton, Seymour, Arcadia and host Chippewa Falls.
Following Seymour’s opening-round matchup, the tournament’s Opening Ceremonies will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the final first-round game between Arcadia and host Chippewa Falls.
The tournament continues through Tuesday, July 28, using a double-elimination format. Teams must battle through the winner’s and elimination brackets to earn a spot in the championship round, with a second championship game scheduled Tuesday evening if needed.
Seymour enters the state tournament after a strong season that earned the team one of eight spots in the championship field. A victory over Appleton on Friday would move Seymour into Saturday’s 7 p.m. winners’ bracket game and put the team two wins away from reaching the tournament semifinals.
