Mehmet Y. Yundem, age 78, of Shawano, Wisconsin, passed away Friday
morning, July 10, 2026, following a brief illness.
Mehmet was born on March 1, 1948, in Orhangazi, Türkiye, a son of the late
Hasan and Servet (Elitez) Yundem. He grew up in Türkiye before moving to the
United States in 1971 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1977. Mehmet
settled in Milwaukee and was employed as a welder at various manufacturing
companies. He concluded his career at Spincraft Manufacturing, where he
dedicated over 30 years of service before retiring in 2013.
Mehmet had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and
caring for his birds. He truly loved observing all of nature's natural beauty.
Mehmet was a talented woodworker and was known for being annoyingly good at
Backgammon and card games.
After making Wisconsin his home, he loved to root for the Green Bay Packers,
Wisconsin Badgers, and any soccer game that happened to be on TV. Mehmet was
a loyal and dependable friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand to
anyone in need.
Survivors include his son Erol (Carol) Yundem of Bethesda, Maryland;
granddaughter, Alara Yundem; brother, Mustafa (Theresa) Yundem of Racine,
Wisconsin; his devoted companion for the past 27 years, Rhonda Hoernke of
Shawano; niece, Ayla Yundem of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; and his ex-wife,
Christine Yundem of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mehmet is also survived by a sister
and numerous relatives in Türkiye.
A celebration of life for Mehmet is pending and will be announced at a later date.
The family kindly requests in lieu of floral tributes, plant a tree in remembrance of
Mehmet.
