SHAWANO, WI – Like many communities across the country, the City of Shawano continues to face a growing demand for housing as city leaders work to add more homes, apartments, and condominiums for current and future residents.
City Administrator Eddie Sheppard says the lack of available housing has become one of the city’s biggest challenges.
“I think everybody knows that housing is difficult at the moment, not only the cost, but the availability,” Sheppard said.
According to Sheppard, Shawano continues to attract people interested in living and working in the community, but the current housing inventory has struggled to keep pace with that interest.
To address the shortage, the city has partnered with private developers on several residential projects that are currently underway or in the planning stages.
“We have projects that we have in the works for all of those,” Sheppard said. “They all seem to be going very well. Got a couple new ones coming online here in the fall that are going to be really getting moving in the spring.”
Those projects include a mix of single-family homes, apartment complexes, and condominium developments, all aimed at increasing housing opportunities for residents while supporting Shawano’s continued growth.
Sheppard says the city will continue working with developers and community partners to expand housing options, helping ensure Shawano remains an attractive place for families, businesses, and new residents in the years ahead.
