State-Funded Road Projects to Improve Two Major Shawano Corridors

SHAWANO, WI – Two of Shawano’s busiest roadways are set to receive major improvements over the next several years through state-funded transportation projects.

City Administrator Eddie Sheppard says West Green Bay Street is scheduled for reconstruction and repaving in 2027, with the project funded through a 70 percent state and 30 percent city cost share.

“So Green Bay Street, West Green Bay Street is going to be completed in 2027. That’s the 70% state funded, 30% city funded,” Sheppard said.

Sheppard says North Main Street is also currently scheduled for a full repaving in 2028, continuing the city’s long-term effort to improve its transportation infrastructure.

He says receiving state funding for both projects will allow the city to complete the work much more efficiently than if Shawano had to fund the projects on its own.

“If the city was doing it, it would have to be a many-year project and that would be more disruptive than obviously getting it in and getting it done,” Sheppard said.

While the projects are expected to improve safety and driving conditions, Sheppard says motorists should be prepared for temporary detours and traffic changes once construction begins.

City officials say the improvements represent a significant investment in Shawano’s infrastructure and will benefit residents, businesses, and visitors for years to come.
