SHAWANO, WI – A new fundraiser helped power this year’s Shawano Fireworks celebration, and organizers say it could become an annual tradition.
Organizer Paul Kersten says the fireworks committee introduced a calendar raffle for the first time this year to help raise money for the community’s annual Independence Day fireworks display.
“We started a raffle this year, and we had a successful calendar raffle that helped raise funds for the fireworks,” Kersten said.
Kersten says the fundraiser exceeded expectations and is already being considered for a return next year as organizers continue searching for ways to support the annual event.
Following another successful Fourth of July celebration, Kersten also thanked the many volunteers, sponsors, and organizations that worked behind the scenes to make the event possible.
“Fireworks committee. We’ve got people from the Chamber of Commerce. There are people over at the city, at the county,” Kersten said.
He noted that the annual fireworks display costs approximately $25,000, making community support essential to keeping the tradition alive.
Kersten says the continued generosity of local businesses, volunteers, and residents allows Shawano to host one of the area’s signature Fourth of July celebrations each year.
