SHAWANO, WI – Construction crews continue making significant progress on referendum-funded improvements at Shawano Community High School, with work taking place throughout nearly every part of the building.
Superintendent Kurt Krizan says district staff are beginning to see the transformation firsthand as the extensive summer construction project moves forward.
“I took a tour just the other day,” Krizan said. “Every inch of the high school is basically being touched right now. So from the ceiling grids and lights and painting and some carpet updates.”
Krizan says between 150 and 180 contractors are on campus each day, completing classroom renovations, mechanical upgrades, athletic facility improvements, and a variety of other projects approved by district voters.
Despite the large amount of construction underway, Krizan says the project continues to meet its major milestones.
“Everything is on time, on track and on budget,” he said. “So it looks like a lot right now, but it’ll be ready for the first day of school.”
For safety reasons, access to the high school remains limited throughout the summer. Krizan says summer weight training is the only activity currently taking place inside the building, while the remainder of the campus remains closed to allow construction crews to complete the work safely and efficiently.
District officials say the referendum improvements are designed to modernize classrooms, enhance student learning spaces, upgrade building infrastructure, and improve athletic facilities ahead of the upcoming school year.
