BONDUEL, WI- Newly crowned Shawano County Fairest of the Fair Sophia Zeeman says she’s excited to spend the next year representing the fair and the community she has grown to love.
For Zeeman, the Shawano County Fair is much more than a week of exhibits and entertainment.
“The fair to me is just one big community event,” she said. “It’s like a big family reunion, and it’s one of the best parts of the whole summer.”
As the county’s new ambassador, Zeeman says she’s looking forward to meeting people across the area, especially during the many community parades she’ll attend.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the parades,” she said. “I really enjoy getting to see all the kids outside and seeing everyone together in a community setting. And, of course, I’m really looking forward to the fair.”
Her first official appearance will come during Bonduel’s Fourth of July celebration, which coincides with the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.
“It feels great,” Zeeman said. “I feel like it’s a really special year, and I’m going to have a lot of fun.”
She also hopes to grow personally throughout her year as Fairest of the Fair by learning from those who have served before her.
“I’m going to look to my leaders,” she said. “I’ll talk to Olivia as much as I can, along with her mom and all the other leaders, to help me improve and learn.”
While the Shawano County Fair remains her favorite, Zeeman says she enjoys attending county fairs throughout Wisconsin and hopes to visit as many as possible this summer.
“I do like the Outagamie County Fair,” she said. “But really, any fair that I can get to, I love.”
When she’s not promoting agriculture and the county fair, Zeeman is pursuing another passion. She is entering her second year at Fox Valley Technical College, where she is studying culinary arts with the goal of becoming a chef.
Zeeman will spend the next year serving as an ambassador for the Shawano County Fair, promoting agriculture, youth involvement, and community events throughout the county.
