SEYMOUR, WI – While serving meals and supporting the community at the Outagamie County Fair this past weekend, members of Seymour American Legion Post 106 were also focused on recruiting the next generation of veterans.
Incoming Commander John Berg says many American Legion posts are looking for younger veterans to become active members and help continue the organization’s long-standing mission of service.
“It takes a little extra time out of your life, but kids are growing up and stuff like that,” Berg said. “You don’t have to be there for every project.”
Berg says the Legion understands that work and family commitments come first, but even volunteering occasionally can make a meaningful difference. He encourages eligible veterans to get involved, whether it’s helping with community events, supporting fellow veterans, or participating in ceremonies and other Legion activities.
The American Legion plays an important role in communities across Wisconsin by providing military funeral honors, supporting youth programs, organizing patriotic events, and assisting veterans and their families.
Berg says bringing in younger members is essential to ensuring those traditions continue for future generations while allowing the organization to keep serving both veterans and the Seymour community.
