KESHENA, WI – The College of Menominee Nation is honoring the legacy of its founding president, Dr. Verna Fowler, following the announcement that the college has been included in her estate plans.
College officials say the gift will provide continued support for future generations of students while helping advance the mission Fowler helped establish more than three decades ago.
Fowler played a pivotal role in the creation of the College of Menominee Nation in 1993 after returning home to work with Menominee tribal leaders to build a tribal institution of higher education. As the college’s founding president, she helped create an educational environment focused on serving the Menominee Nation and neighboring tribal communities.
Throughout her career, Fowler emphasized the importance of philanthropy, scholarship opportunities, and expanding access to higher education for Native students. She also championed initiatives designed to support student success and strengthen Indigenous leadership.
College leaders say the gift reflects Fowler’s lifelong commitment to education and will help ensure her vision continues well into the future. The funding will support the college’s efforts to blend Indigenous teachings, culture, and values with higher education opportunities for students.
Officials say Fowler’s contributions helped shape the foundation of the College of Menominee Nation and that her legacy will continue to impact students and families for generations to come.
