Altoona captured the WIAA Division 2 Boys Tennis Team State Championship on Saturday, defeating Edgewood 5-2 in the title match at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The second-seeded Railroaders earned their spot in the championship by defeating third-seeded Kohler 5-2 in the semifinals earlier in the day. Altoona showcased its depth throughout the lineup, securing the victory and advancing to the state final.
Waiting in the championship match was fourth-seeded Edgewood, which had knocked off top-seeded Shorewood 5-2 in the other semifinal. But Altoona would not be denied, matching Edgewood point for point before pulling away for a 5-2 victory and the Division 2 state title.
