The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for portions of Shawano and Menominee counties Wednesday evening after a storm moved through the area. The warning was issued shortly before 5 p.m. when a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected near Neopit and moving northeast at approximately 40 mph. Nothing has been confirmed by the National Weather Service.
A lightning strike sparked a house fire in the Mountain area early this morning, according to the Riverview Fire Department. Fire officials said the strike caused significant damage to the residence. Crews from the Nicolet Fire District were first to arrive and began battling the blaze. A ladder truck from Riverview Fire Department was used to access a section of the roof that had been heavily damaged by the fire.
In Beaver Dam, the iconic Blue Culvers barn was destroyed in Wednesday’s storm.
